4 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Blog: Content Marketing 101

Gone are the days when simply having a website was enough to stand out. In today’s saturated market, having a business blog is key to maintaining a solid online presence. A mainstay in any content marketing strategy, blogs have proven time and time again how useful they are in reaching customers, driving traffic, and turning leads into sales.

In my work as a freelance copywriter, I often come across clients who know that their business needs a good blog - but they don’t know why. That’s why I want to quickly go over just what makes blogs such an essential business tool.

1) Blogs Help Your Online Presence & SEO Thrive

Invisible companies don’t do much business.

I imagine that’s one reason why your company decided to create a website in the first place. But as we’ve already discussed, having a website is only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to creating a successful digital presence.

SEO is another part of that puzzle. A well-managed and consistently updated company blog can seriously help grow your brand’s SEO. Search engines like Google ‘reward’ websites that publish new content, use strategic keywords, and fill the most popular search queries. Luckily, a good business blog can help you accomplish all three of those SEO requirements.

2) You’re the Expert in Your Industry - Blogs Help You Demonstrate That

Your business is the best of the best at what it does - show it!

A business blog provides a natural, non-salesy way to answer common customer questions, provide educational resources, industry news, and more.

Think about it: if someone has their question answered by a blog your company published, they’re much more likely to come into the sales process trusting your brand.

3) Blogs Make it Easier to Gain Leads - & Convert Them

A good business blog won’t just help position your company as the most trustworthy source in your industry - it can also help convert your web traffic into valuable leads.

How does one do that? By making sure every piece you publish has a clear call to action. This is where free resources like white papers, infographics, or free trials come in handy. Add a CTA button at the bottom of your posts offering one of these resources in exchange for a subscription to your email newsletter. This is how you start to transform that traffic into leads.

4) A Good Blog Can Form the Backbone of Your Digital Marketing Strategy

Think of your business blog as a foundational part of your overall content marketing strategy. For example, the contents of one blog could provide fodder for a week’s worth of social media content. Or, if you’re in the final stages of planning a marketing campaign, you can use your business blog to test out different strategies without committing a ton of time or money.

At the end of the day, if you’re not leveraging the power of a good blog, you’re missing several key business opportunities. And in this day and age, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to stand out.
